Israel’s new ‘ambassador’ in Africa
Joined by actress Mia Farrow, singer Nurit Galron to go on mission on behalf of Jewish state to assess aid to refugees in Central African Republic, to meet republic dignitaries.
 Israeli singer Nurit Galron will join an aid delegation to Africa along with film legend Mia Farrow (UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador). Galron is scheduled to leave Wednesday on her visit to the Central African Republic.
Bordering Chad, Sudan and Congo, this is one of the top ten poorest countries in Africa. The republic is currently at war, with hundreds of thousands of refugees in need of assistance.
This first trip is a joint initiative of the Foreign Ministry, IsraAID (The Israel Forum for International Humanitarian Aid), UNICEF (The United Nations Children's Fund )and The American Jewish Committee (AJC).
The goal: To raise awareness in Israel of the hardship suffered by third-world populations.
Galron will join American film star Mia Farrow, who is UNICEF’s honorary ambassador.
On the agenda for Galron and Farrow: Visiting UNICEF headquarters, schools and food centers as well as meeting the leaders of the major tribes of the republic and its president.
“It’s a great honor for me to represent Israel in an intricate region such as Africa, Galron said Sunday. “I am very excited to take the trip and meet Mia Farrow.”
