Jerusalem AIDS Project Participates in the XV International AIDS Conference in Bangkok
(July 9-16, 2004, Bangkok, Thailand)
Jerusalem AIDS Project (JAIP), an Israeli-based aid organization that shares it’s expertise in HIV/AIDS education with developing countries around the world, participated in XV International AIDS Conference in Bangkok, from July 11 – 16, 2004.
The aim of the conference is to advance the global response to HIV/AIDS and promote ‘Access For All.’ The presence and involvement of faith-based actors at this particular conference is the largest and most visible to date. Churches and church-related organizations have coordinated their efforts for the conference in Bangkok and have worked with organizations of other faiths among them Muslims, Buddhists and Jews as much as possible.
Two Israeli personnel Hanni Rosenberg and Inon Shankar, both from the Jerusalem AIDS Project (JAIP), were invited to co-steer a session on spirituality and AIDS. This session discussed the religious approach to HIV/AIDS and Hanni Rosenberg presented the perspectives of the Jewish faith.
The Israeli group JAIP also took part in the interfaith exhibition with 50 faith-based organizations, which displayed and distributed materials with information focused on best practices, and helpful for the work of others.
The conference was organized by the International AIDS Society, in partnership with the Thai Ministry of Public Health and in collaboration with GNP+, ICW, ICASO, TNCA and UNAIDS. With over 15,000 attendees from around the globe, the XV International AIDS Conference provides a unique opportunity for sharing and networking across all levels of care and response to the epidemic - from policy makers, scientific and medical communities, and international NGOs to civil society organizations involved on the ground.
