“Ringing Bells”
For Immediate Release: May 19, 2005 (by JAIP & IsraAID)
The bells are ringing world-wide, but especially in developing countries. These are alarming bells, reminding us that every day 14,000 new HIV infections occur in children, women and adults. They also remind us that vulnerability and discrimination are closely associated in the AIDS pandemic.
"Ringing Bells" is launched this week as a new project aiming at engaging Israeli backpackers as volunteers in education for HIV/AIDS prevention. The bells represent the call for action and programs'implementation.
As a first step in this global project, the International Israeli organization Jerusalem AIDS Project is holding a unique course on HIV focusing it on Israeli backpackers who will be traveling this summer to developing countries.
The course will be held on the 16th – 17th of June 2005 in Tel Aviv and will offer Israelis with knowledge on HIV/AIDS issues, how to develop ones own volunteer program while on travel, how to spread the knowledge on HIV prevention in the communities one travels to, and more...
This unique program is one of a kind which will not only enhance the Israeli travelers understanding of the HIV problem worldwide but also with their support help generate better understanding in communities where the backpackers travel.
