Israeli Flying Aid Sends Relief Aid to Flood Victims in Georgia

Last month's heavy rainfalls which hit the Republic of Georgia caused severe floods in the poorest regions of western Georgia damaging houses and infrastructure and leaving thousands of people homeless and hungry.

The Israeli humanitarian aid group "Israeli Flying Aid" in collaboration with The Georgian Jewish Congress and with the help of IsraAID has decided to respond to the catastrophe and send a relief delegation which included relief personnel Shimon Tobi, Ofer Kokus, Yaron Meir and Gal Lusky.

The Israeli team left Israel on July 8th, 2005 heading to Georgia with over 10 tons of relief items donated by Israeli companies which included among others food, blankets and medicine.

During their landing the team was met by local Jewish leaders who escorted the group to the affected region. The team's journey took 20 hours to reach the most remote areas that were hit. The districts of Boushty and Mestia city. The team has distributed the items to hundreds of families in the region.

"We have reached areas that haven't received assistance in weeks, the condition of the people were awful, I am glad that we were able to provide the people with the relief items that were donated by the people of Israel" Gal Lusky, Chairwomen of "Israeli Flying Aid"

Many Israeli companies have chipped in to assist this relief efforts among them were The Israeli company Arkia Airlines, Teva and Meterna.
