Israeli Aid Group Calls 1 Million People to Join Unique World AIDS Day Campaign
For Immediate Release November 13, 2005 by IsraAID www.israaid.org.il
A unique Israeli campaign was launched today in Jerusalem for this coming World AIDS Day which will take place on December 1, 2006.
The campaign "Bells 4 AIDS" was originated by the Israeli aid group "The Jerusalem AIDS Project" which aims to raise awareness on the AIDS pandemic by reaching out to over one million people worldwide asking them to ring a bell for at least 60 seconds on Thursday, December 1st, 2005, at 20:00 GMT.
"Our greatest reward would be to hear 1,000,000 bells ringing around the world, making a collective noise for more awareness about HIV/AIDS and share the responsibility in prevention and care." Ms Hanny Epelboim of "Bells 4 AIDS"
Thousands worldwide have already agreed to participate in these efforts.
Religious groups, student movements, UN employees, aid organizations and individuals are asked to ring school bells, hand bells, fire-brigade bells, church bells, tower bells, door bells, cow bells and any bell they find. People who are interested could also visit the www.bells4aids.org and click on the electronic bell on the website.
Every day 14,000 new HIV infections occur globally, every day a new person is infected with the virus of the preventable AIDS disease. The group is planning to set a new World Guinness Record in bells' ringing for a public health cause.
